Digital and Photographic Art
D&PA is a fine art concentration focusing on photography and digital media. Students choose from a variety of courses within the area to experiment and express their unique vision. Upper level classes are generally topical in nature (e.g., landscape, social documentary, the figure, portfolio development) and focus on content more than process. However, skills-based classes such as studio lighting, large format, black-and-white photo, video, sound, and animation are critical aspects of the curriculum as well. D&PA majors have access to a variety of state of the art technologies, including large-format printers, providing students with tools to professionally produce, present, and exhibit their work.
New Media Design Practices
The NMDP program is a fine art concentration geared toward artists/designers who intend to apply their skills in professional endeavors such as graphic, web, or game design. NMDP students collaborate with AMP students/faculty in the creation of exhibitions and special projects at area institutions, such as the Toledo Museum of Art. They also participate in internships on and off campus including at advertising agencies and other companies. The NMDP concentration incorporates service and experiential learning while focusing on new media and a range of design skills. Students in this program have an opportunity to work with clients, create proposals, and develop a group project for a partner organization/business within the community.
